Basingstoke Amateur Theatrical Society performs Pricilla Queen of the Desert
Basingstoke Amateur Theatrical Society
Founded in 1958, BATS is a not-for-profit, amateur theatrical society that specialises in staging musicals. This winter they staged Pricilla, Queen of the Desert. They wanted to do something to honour their friend Gary J Myers, who was a member of the society and had autism, and who sadly passed away. Gary always said 'you may feel lonely but you are never alone' - he told his friends that the support he received from Autism Hampshire helped him fill the void that he sometimes felt. So, at each performance of Pricilla, members of cast and crew collected donations from the audience. Here at head office, we were astonished when they brought the buckets back and we could hardly lift them! The total raised by collections was £965 and this was topped up to £1,000 by the lighting company that BATS use, M3 Productions. A fitting tribute indeed to a dearly missed friend.
